30 Years of dÄHLer Competition Line: The History of the Swiss BMW Tuning Specialist

1996 was a year like any other for Switzerland – and yet a then-28-year-old from Bern laid the foundation in Belp for what would become one of Europe's best-known BMW tuning addresses. We're talking about Christoph Dähler and his company, dÄHLer Competition Line. In 2026, the company celebrates its 30th anniversary – reason enough to take a look back at its eventful history.
From a workshop operation to an internationally represented brand
What began as "Dähler Design & Technik" in a rather modest workshop in Belp near Bern has grown over three decades into one of Switzerland's largest BMW tuners. The original GmbH later gave rise to dÄHLer Competition Line AG. Today, the company is active not only at its headquarters in Belp, but also through its German subsidiary dÄHLer Competition Line (Deutschland) GmbH and a US branch in Hammonton, New Jersey – giving it a presence on multiple continents.
An important milestone in the company's more recent history came in 2018, when Jörg Wey joined as managing director – he has been largely responsible for the company's international expansion ever since.

Wiesmann, Hartge, and the in-house wheel line
Anyone wanting to understand dÄHLer's history can't avoid two names that have somewhat faded from memory today: for many years, Dähler represented the German sports car manufacturer Wiesmann in Switzerland as general importer, taking on technical support for the roadsters and coupés built on BMW drivetrain technology. At the same time, the company acted as the Swiss general representative for the German BMW tuner Hartge, until the latter ceased operations in the mid-2010s.
This experience from distributing other brands later fed into the company's own product development. A key milestone was the introduction of the in-house CDC1 and CDC2 Forged alloy wheels. While the CDC1 initially launched as a cast wheel in 2017, the CDC2 Forged, presented in 2023, was developed by Christoph Dähler and his team consistently as a pure forged wheel – precisely tailored to the current M models of BMW's G-series lineup.
Three divisions, one standard
Today, dÄHLer's business is organized into three divisions: the competition line is dedicated to enhancing current BMW and BMW M models, ranging from power upgrades to suspension and aerodynamics. The classic line takes care of classic BMW vehicles, while the race line handles the build and motorsport deployment of racing and club-sport vehicles. The offering is rounded out by traditional workshop services such as maintenance and repair.
Current projects such as the tuning program for the BMW M3 Touring or the latest performance stage for the M2 G87 show that even after three decades, dÄHLer remains right at the pulse of the current BMW M model range.
The future is already planned
Particularly noteworthy: succession has long since been settled. Daughter Michelle Meyer-Dähler is set to one day follow in her father's footsteps. Until then, Christoph Dähler remains at the helm of his team. For the anniversary, he was quoted with a line that stands as a fitting motto for the whole company: "My tank is far from empty yet."
From a one-man workshop to a BMW specialist represented on six continents – the story of dÄHLer Competition Line is also a story of how Swiss craftsmanship can assert itself internationally. With succession already settled within the family and a portfolio ranging from forged wheels to complete vehicles, the next chapter of the dÄHLer story looks set to stay exciting.
