New BMW X5 and iX5: Winter launch

According to WLTP, the iX5 60 xDrive achieves a range of 723 to 850 km.
BMW X3: M50 gains 45 hp
The biggest powertrain news concerns the X3 M50 xDrive: it now delivers 326 kW / 443 hp, an increase of 33 kW / 45 hp. Consumption is 8.8 l/100 km (199 g/km CO₂). Also new to the line-up is the X3 20 xDrive with 155 kW / 211 hp (8.2 l/100 km, 186 g/km).
The interior gets an upgrade too:
illuminated storage compartment in the centre console
grab handle with ambient lighting
new glovebox opener
new stitching on the instrument panel
stainless steel insert on the loading sill (not on X3 20 xDrive and 20d xDrive)
BMW iX3: New variant and more equipment
The Neue Klasse iX3 gains a new variant, the iX3 40 xDrive, with 275 kW / 374 hp and a WLTP range of 515 to 621 km (19.5–16.3 kWh/100 km).
Further updates:
new exterior colour Mineral White metallic plus new BMW Individual paint finishes
roof rails in High-gloss Black as an option
Wireless Charging Tray Plus as standard
Travel & Comfort adapters on the back of the front seats as standard
new seat adjustment switches with contour lighting in the doors (with multifunction and sport seats)
new caliper geometry for the M Sport brakes in red and blue
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer: 17 inches as standard
The 218i Active Tourer (96 kW / 131 hp) and the 220i Active Tourer (125 kW / 170 hp) receive powertrain revisions, both at 6.1 l/100 km and 138 g/km.
From autumn, the 218d, 220d and the 225e xDrive plug-in hybrid come as standard on 17-inch Star-spoke 875 light-alloy wheels instead of the previous 16-inch wheels.
BMW M5: High-pressure cast wheels
The most exciting tech story in the release: M5 Saloon and M5 Touring get a new M Performance wheel in style 1075 M, made using High Pressure Casting (HPC). According to BMW, this is the first time the process has been used in automotive manufacturing.
What the process delivers:
the wheel is cast from the outside in, under vacuum and high pressure, in just 0.05 seconds
80 sensors and an AI monitor the casting process
no additional heat treatment required
50% shorter process time and half the energy per wheel
finer grain structure in the metal, resulting in higher strength
up to 20% less weight per wheel at the same performance
designs with up to 70 blade spokes and very thin aero surfaces become possible
The process was developed by the German company Entec-Stracon GmbH. The wheel comes in Gold Bronze and Jet Black, in 20 or 21 inches, as a complete wheel set with sports tyres. Less unsprung mass gives the M5 noticeably more agility, quicker acceleration and better braking.
Digital updates: Prime Video, Drive Challenge and BMW Maps
Amazon Prime Video arrives in the second half of 2026 in vehicles with BMW Operating System 9 and X, either via the Video & TV app or as a download from the in-car app store. Content can be resumed right where it was paused at home.
BMW Drive Challenge (OS X) gives real-time feedback on acceleration, steering and braking while driving, displayed in BMW Panoramic Vision. Evaluation in the My BMW App is expected to follow from the end of 2026. The rollout will be staggered by model.
BMW Maps (OS X) combines navigation, vehicle surroundings and driver assistance in a single 3D view from October 2026. The solution uses map technology from Mapbox, and search is extended with Google data, including ratings and photos.
The autumn 2026 update is broad: performance fans get the X3 M50 with 443 hp, luxury buyers finally see the new 7 Series and X5/iX5 at dealers. Technically, though, the HPC wheel for the M5 is the most interesting item. A process that cuts weight, energy and production time at the same time is unlikely to stay exclusive to the M5 for long.
Note: All information is based on the BMW press release of 30 September 2026 and refers to the German market. All figures are provisional. Availability, equipment and prices for Switzerland may differ.
