BMW iX4 M60 xDrive: 612 hp, 777 km range – the electric flagship of the Neue Klasse.

With the iX4, BMW brings the third Neue Klasse model – and immediately tops it with an M Performance flagship, the iX4 M60 xDrive. 612 hp, 3.9 seconds to 100 km/h and still up to 777 kilometres of range: here is what the electric SUV coupé can do.

Neue Klasse as an SUV coupé
Following the iX3 (NA5) and the i3 (NA0), the iX4 with the model code NA7 is the third Neue Klasse model. It replaces the previous X4 and adopts the iX3's technology, combined with a sloping coupé roofline. With a drag coefficient of 0.23, it is even slightly more aerodynamic than the iX3 – which shows directly in the range.
Technically, the M60 xDrive is the twin of the iX3 M60 xDrive, which launches at the same time. It made its first public appearance at AUTO ATHINA 2026 in Athens, finished in matte BMW Individual Frozen Pure Red.
Powertrain: new rear motor, one second quicker
The front axle uses the familiar asynchronous motor (167 hp, 255 Nm) from the less powerful variants. New is the sixth-generation electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM) on the rear axle, which exceeds the iX4 50 xDrive's motor in both peak and continuous output. Together they deliver 612 hp and 875 Nm – making the sprint to 100 km/h a full second quicker than in the iX4 50 xDrive.
The battery is the same as in the 50: 108.7 kWh net, based on the new round cells, integrated into the 800-volt architecture and capable of bidirectional charging. Preliminary combined consumption is 17.1–20.2 kWh/100 km.
Range and charging
Despite its significantly higher output, the M60 achieves up to 777 km WLTP – only around 50 km less than the longest-range iX4 50 xDrive (828 km) and more than the iX3 M60. Choosing the optional sport tyres or 22-inch wheels puts it at the lower end of the range at 654 km.
At a fast charger, the iX4 M60 accepts up to 400 kW, adding up to 360 km of range in ten minutes.
Chassis: genuine M hardware
To make sure the power doesn't just count in a straight line, BMW M has added:
Electronically controlled M Sport differential on the rear axle
Adaptive M Suspension with specific tuning
Red M Sport brakes
21-inch light-alloy wheels as standard, optional sport tyres or 22-inch wheels
Dedicated My Modes "M Sport" and "M Sport Plus"
Design: M Yellow Lights and new M styling
Visually, the flagship stands out clearly. The most striking detail is the new M Yellow Lights – yellow lighting elements in the front, inspired by BMW GT race cars and the BMW M Hybrid V8 from the World Endurance Championship. They are joined by BMW Iconic Glow illumination (standard), a dedicated M rear spoiler, black M mirror caps with stripes in M colours, a black rear diffuser and its own, more minimalist rear light graphic. At the rear, the M60 carries the model badge in the new M design: black lettering with a silver border.
Like every iX4, the M60 comes with a full-length panoramic roof with climate comfort glass as standard.
Interior
The cockpit follows the familiar Neue Klasse concept: BMW Panoramic iDrive with Panoramic Vision below the windscreen, a 17.9-inch central display, BMW Operating System X and an optional 3D head-up display. Exclusive to the M60:
M Sport steering wheel with red 12 o'clock marker and shift paddles
Electrically adjustable M Sport seats with massage function and illuminated M logo
Harman Kardon sound system

Launch and price
The iX4 launches in March 2027, initially as the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive. Production of the M60 xDrive also begins in March 2027 in Debrecen, with orders expected to open at the end of January 2027. BMW has not yet announced a price. With the iX4 50 xDrive starting at €75,900 in Germany, the M60 is likely to sit well above that. We will update this article as soon as the Swiss price list is available.
The BMW iX4 M60 xDrive shows where electric M Performance models are heading: supercar acceleration, genuine M chassis technology and, at the same time, a range that would have seemed utopian even for frugal EVs just a few years ago. Anyone looking for an emotional SUV coupé who doesn't want to compromise on performance should mark January 2027 in their calendar.
